Lorrie Williams of design firm Fluff helped a family take advantage of a lake house basement with multi-functional spaces and pieces. Whether you have a view of water or not, you can incorporate some of the same tips for a great family space.

Our team of Fluff designers discovered that this space is primarily used for friends and extended family gatherings when the family wants to swim and take advantage of the lake view right outside the back doors.
We added backless leather bar stools that tuck under the massive granite bar to provide a place for those still wearing damp swimsuits to have a seat and join the party.
To maximize seating — and style! — we tucked a long sectional with a chaise under the bar, added a pair of stylish chairs, a few over-sized accents, and a chair-and-a-half to round out the area.
Our design team carried a natural, organic vibe throughout the basement by using the art and accessories to bring the outdoors in and continue the lake house vibe without creating a “theme-y” room. Keeping the color palette primarily neutral with a few blue accents created a seamless flow between the exterior and interior of the home.
We also used varying finishes in the accessories and art to inject interest and texture into the design.
The result is a fabulous, family-friendly space in which to entertain!
