We made a big transition in our home this month: Our youngest daughter Hazel turned three and said goodbye to her crib and hello to her first big-girl bed. The timing was right for us to move our other daughter Stella (almost five) from her toddler bed to a larger twin. I partnered with Hayneedle to give the girls’ shared bedroom a big-kid makeover to celebrate this milestone—complete with matching beds, a bright candy-colored rug, posh kids furniture, cozy reading nook, and their own teepee!
For beds, we chose the white Lake House Adrian Bunk Bed Set with a trundle bed. We loved the versatility the set offers—the ability to keep the beds as separate twins now, transition into a bunk bed when the girls are a few years older, and a trundle bed for cousin visits and friend sleepovers.
It’s amazing what a new rug can do for a room; the girls had been begging for more pink in their room and the fun and graphic nuLOOM Candy Area Rug did just the trick. I drew from the rug’s bold color palette to add other accents to the room like the amazing Energy Hot Pink Table Lamp from HGTV HOME and a variety of accent pillows in pink and orange.
The white Greenland Home Fashions Ruffled Quilt Sets are a nice contrast to all the bright pops of color in the room while the graphic, personalized Electron Pillows are such a fun way for each of the girls to claim their own spot in the room. Next to the bed, the intricate Tommy Bahama Ferry Nesting Tables provide the perfect alternative to a traditional nightstand and can either be stored together next to the bunk or separated by each of the twin beds.
Alcoves, like the two we have in the girls’ bedroom, can be awkward to decorate but they also offer unique opportunities to create cozy nooks. The cushy Skyline Armless Linen Loveseat features a pillow-top and fit perfectly in one of the alcoves, providing a special spot for us to all read together before bed rather than being relegated to the floor. The addition of two wood, wall-mounted bookshelves keeps some of the girls’ favorite stories within reach and helps designate the space as a reading nook.
The other alcove is all about fun! When I saw the 6-foot, customizable Hideaway Teepee from Dexton, I knew Stella and Hazel would go nuts having one in their room. It’s the perfect spot for their pretend play now, and I’m sure it’ll be used for sharing secrets late into the night down the road. I enjoyed adding a personal touch to their room by painting the teepee a bright pink-and-orange pattern and adorning it in my favorite pom-pom trim.
We rounded out the room with some super-functional Classic Playtime Storage, including shelves for the girls’ books and a bin for their stuffed animals. I love that the pieces are stackable and easy to add onto if we need more storage later.
The selection of Hayneedle products came together perfectly to create one magical big-kids room that will grow with the girls for many years to come!
