How do you transform your patio space into a winter wonderland (especially if you live somewhere with no snow)? Blogger and stylist Alex Evjen shares her process of bringing in holiday cheer with existing outdoor pieces including Hayneedle exclusives.
In Arizona, the holidays are filled with sunshine and 80 degree weather. While the rest of the U.S. is bringing their outdoor furniture indoors, we are decorating ours for the holidays and backyard parties.
As a busy mom of two, I like to keep my holiday decor simple, cozy, and modern. It doesn’t take much to make your space festive. By simply changing out my blue pillows to red, adding some cozy throws for snuggles, and a bit of holiday cheer with pine topiaries I was able to transform my outdoor space for Christmas.
Decorating with bright red can be intimidating, so try using a color scheme with soft reds mixed with ivory and a warm gray. With green being one of the popular holiday colors, I leave it to the plants to bring in the pop of color. These pine topiaries and a cedar and berry Christmas wreath was really all I needed. I didn’t add ornaments or lights to them. Instead, I let beautiful red lanterns, white lanterns and a touch of metallics do the work.
An element that I absolutely adore having outside is our blanket ladder. It provides storage and style with its rustic treatment. I keep our throws there as well as my plants.
Additional seating is always a good thing to have, so we bring out our outdoor moroccan poufs when we have several guests. These will be especially nice to have when we’re all trying to cozy up by the fire with our fire pit.
We can’t wait for the parties to begin. In the meantime our little family will be enjoying the outdoors in comfort and style thanks to Hayneedle.
