In 2017, Greenery became the new neutral, mid-century modern styles reigned supreme, and minimalism took the design world by storm. While these styles definitely aren’t out, there are some new trends on the horizon you might want to try in your home for 2018.
Every year, Pantone releases its color of the year. Last year, the color experts went with subtle and relaxing Greenery, but this year they’re going bold. Ultra Violet is the new shade of the moment, and it’s not for the faint of heart. A color this vibrant makes a big impact on pieces like an accent chair or sofa without taking over the entire room.
Ultra Violet isn’t the only vibrant color making a splash in 2018. Bold colors are popping up in every room of the house. The vibrant navy blue Nuevo Anders L-shaped sectional is visually striking and the velvet texture is very on-trend too.
If a large piece of furniture seems too big of a commitment, show off your bold style with an area rug in a vibrant color and pattern.
In today’s busy world, people are ready for some rest and relaxation, but getting away for a vacation isn’t always easy. Why not bring the resort to your home?
According to Pinterest, 2017 saw a 269% increase in saves for “spa bathroom.” Users are searching for rattan furniture and relaxing bathrooms that bring a resort feeling home.
Aside from wicker furniture, try a large soaking tub in your bathroom. Nothing feels more like a spa treatment than sinking into warm water and letting the worries of your day fade away.
For a smaller enhancement, try updating your towels to a large, hotel-style set. These can help your bathroom feel luxurious without breaking the bank.
Much like bold color trends, designers and home decorators are making big statements with the rest of their décor as well. Pinterest reported a 637% increase in saves for “big wall art” in 2017 – the largest increase in their entire home section.
Your walls aren’t the only place to make a statement. Bold lighting choices will be popular in 2018. Try incorporating this trend into your kitchen or living room with pendant lighting.
Metallics have been trending for a few years, but it’s typically been one metallic at a time. In 2018 you’ll see silver, copper, and gold all mixed together.
Mixing metals balances the tones in a room. Having warm gold and copper tones mixed with cool silvers makes a room feel even more luxurious and modern.
Patterns will be all over the place in 2018 – even on houseplants! The Pinterest data shows that searches for “patterned plants” increased by 553% in 2017.
Patterns aren’t limited to your plants, however. You’ll see patterns in rugs and on ceilings and walls. Try out a patterned wallpaper to transform a room.
Geometric patterns in particular will be especially popular. Add touches of this trend through throw pillows and other small décor items.
Incorporate one or all of these trends and give your home a fun and fresh start in 2018!
