Sunset Magazine and Hayneedle teamed up to bring the 2018 Idea House in Beverly Hills to life. Now, we’ve updated this California dream home for the holidays. Read on to see how easy it is to transform your space into a festive, West Coast winter wonderland by swapping out some decor and adding a few holiday must-haves.
Update Your Color Palette
As seen in Sunset’s Idea House, the color palette was evergreen and neutral. For the holidays, the look was updated to more vibrant colors that really popped against a crisp white backdrop. Consider festive shades of blush pink, charcoal, and rose gold, a different take on traditional Christmas colors.
And after adding some vibrant hues for the season:
Swap Out Pillows
The great news about holiday pillows is that they don’t have to be explicitly holiday. Christmas-inspired pillows can be in decadent, celebratory fabrics such as velvet and silk with embellishments (think fringe, pompoms, and sequins). That way, you can get more mileage out of decorative pillows.
Layer on Traditional Pieces
Keep your key pieces (lighting, tables, larger furniture) and simply add some Christmas essentials. A classic wreath, stockings, tabletop trees, and garland will transform your space without too much work.
And after adding holiday decor & switching out dining chairs:
Swap Out Decor
Once again, keep your main pieces. In the instance of the entryway, the console table and mirror can stay. A wreath can lean so easily against the wall and metallic baskets are both festive and useful for storage.
And after replacing plants and books with garland, glass trees, and a wreath:
Take a cue (or several) from Sunset’s holidized home! Simply swap out decor for seasonal favorites, update your color palette ever-so-slightly, and try some luxurious fabrics ideal for the holidays and beyond.
