The living room is a favorite place for gathering with family and friends, especially during the holidays. Make a cohesive, festive statement using your own personal style and some classic holiday decor. Blogger Lia Griffith integrates some of her favorite Hayneedle pieces to make a whimsical, retro (and, of course, welcoming) holiday living room.
Mid-Century Living Room Style
My living room is where we like to spend a lot of our time during the holidays. At this time of the year, more than any other, I like my living room to be a warm and welcoming place for myself, family, and friends to relax and unwind together. In my home, my entryway leads straight into the living room, so it’s important that the two spaces work together to create a cohesive look.
Bright Holiday Accents
As the season changes and the days become cooler, it’s a great time to re-think your living room décor and bring in items that reflect the joy of the holiday season. I wanted to create a living room and entryway that reflects my love of Scandinavian and mid-century design. I was thrilled to find lots of pieces at Hayneedle that allowed me to realize my vision.
With the darker days ahead, it was important to keep my living room bright and light, so I began this make-over by thinking about color. Gold and white are on-trend and make a gorgeous winter palette on which to build, so I began with the lounge chairs, a cozy shag rug, and beautiful ceramics.
Next, I layered on touches of rich red and dark wood, like the rustic JOY letter lights, the red berry balls, and those gorgeous Belham Living side tables to create a sumptuous palette that is perfect for fall.
Adding Seasonal Details
Texture is oh-so-important when creating any room, but it’s especially important when planning your holiday décor. To bring the room to life and keep it feeling cozy, I added details like embellished pillows, wool baskets, and a natural wood end table. The white willow wreath and fresh foliage from my yard are simple ways of layering on texture with little to no cost.
Trimming a Merry Tree
I finished my living room update by choosing a tree that complements my décor perfectly. This black ombre tree with lights is the perfect blend of tradition and glamour. All that’s left to be done is wrap a couple of last gifts and pour myself a glass of delicious mulled wine.
