The kitchen is the perfect room for mixing elements you love. Emily Bergsten of Fluff Interior Design combined industrial fixtures and stools with rustic furnishings and accents for a fun and functional space.
We started our remake of this striking space by contrasting the simple white shaker cabinets with dark, honed granite counters. The over-sized hardware used on the cabinet doors, the industrial-style pendants, and iron bar stools add the perfect touch of modern-vintage style and pump up the “Wow!” factor in this inviting and personable kitchen.
Our client wanted a large sink that faced the family room so she could enjoy being a part of family life while prepping and cleaning up after meals. The over-sized island allows friends and family a place to gather and creates opportunities for helping with meal prep or doing homework and chatting with Mom while she cooks dinner.
Speaking of dinner, how would you like to share a meal around the super-cute built-in banquette? The burlap drum pendant over the banquette table adds texture and interest to the space and the coordinating-but-not-matching iron chairs complement the industrial bar stools.
We kept the permanent fixtures, cabinets, flooring and furniture neutral so colors and seasonal decor can easily be added or switched. When working with neutrals, the use of texture becomes even more important and special attention needs to be given to the materials you use for both permanent fixtures and accessories.
Because kitchens must be highly functional spaces, we like to accessorize with items that are both useful AND pretty, such as a set of canisters, glass storage containers, baskets and beautiful ceramic mixing bowls in complementary colors.
