Home décor enthusiast and blogger Sarah Stewart shares her tips for putting together a festive – but fuss-free – holiday table.
Simple Holiday Place Settings
Christmas and other holiday tablescapes don’t need to be elaborate or time consuming to be beautiful. I’m going to show you a simple, yet festive tablescape and dining room that you can replicate in your own home.
For this dining space, I accessorized my table and dining chairs with fresh greenery from my yard and a few other fun holiday accents. These chairs actually come with their own linen pillows, but for the head chairs, I added red and white buffalo check pillows for a fun holiday twist.
I used these holiday goblets to add a punch of red to the table and to tie in with the other decor in the room. I then layered some fresh greenery clippings from my yard with extra red ornaments from the tree for a look that is natural and works so well with the beautiful finish on the table. For a little height, I added in three tapered candles, which also serve to add a warm fire-lit glow.
I love fresh greenery, but I’ll never say “no” to life-like faux wreaths that will work for years to come. This cedar wreath with berries is not only very realistic, but it’s also the perfect size to hang from windows or a mirror. I simply attached it with a 3-M hook, but you could also loop ribbon around it and attach to the back of the mirror.
Classic Christmas Tree Decor
I’d have a Christmas tree in every single room in our home if I could. Nothing makes an evening at home more magical than leaving all the lights off and only using the glow from lit trees. A Christmas tree in the dining room is a bit unexpected, but makes the meal feel extra special and magical! I used this Feel-Real Tiffany Fir-Slim Hinged Pre-Lit Christmas Tree because it wasn’t overbearing for the corner nook in our dining room. Not only that, the needles are beautiful and look real. I added a mix of red and gold ornaments to keep the overall look polished and simple.
My latest favorite find is this woven tree collar that beautifully takes the place of a traditional tree skirt! It works perfectly with my typically more-coastal decor and adds warmth and texture to the base of the tree.
I’ve been a longtime fan of bar carts, both for function and style. Not only are they perfect to corral your barware essentials, but they can also be used to stage mini-vignettes, like this one that includes these JOY Marquee Lights. I recently got a larger bar cart because we needed a little more space and to better fill this corner. I fell in love with the Belham Living Braxton Bar Cart as soon as I laid eyes on it. I loved the extra space, but even more so, the combination of the gold finish and the glass and mirrored shelves!
To create a feeling of warmth and coziness, I love to add throw pillows and blankets to baskets in various rooms throughout our home. It also makes it easy for your guests to grab a throw to wrap around themselves if they get cold.
Easy Christmas Accents
Although holiday servingware can be fun, I prefer a basic white plate to allow the other decor to shine! By adding a basic chalkboard place card and some additional fresh greenery, the white plates are anything but boring and instantly become more glamorous!
By keeping the color scheme consistent throughout the dining room and adding some fresh (and free!) greenery, everything flows and creates the perfect, cozy holiday setting that can be re-created in any home! Happy hosting!
