Interior designer and HGTV personality Taniya Nayak has taken her magical eye outdoors — to her sister’s porch, to be exact! With so much potential and a blank canvas to work with, this porch was given three seasonal looks, all built around key pieces and utilizing the space for what she needed. Read on and see how Taniya got this holiday front porch look!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year — get your porch ready! If you can’t have fun with your decor around the holidays, then when can you? Whimsical, fun holiday front porch decor with a sense of humor (while still being stylish, of course) is exactly what Taniya went for.
Filling a Small Porch Space
In addition to a dash of whimsy, Taniya gave a completely new look to a previously unused space.
“It’s a small space, but adding the furniture gave it a completely new, livable energy — another spot you really want to hang out in. We took an unused space and turned it into an additional room that’s now a getaway. With the addition of the heat lamps, it’ll be used in the fall. Hopefully in the winter too.”
A great idea for small spaces is to fill it up to make it appear larger. For this look, that means you don’t have to shy away from a large tree, a sectional, area rug, and a bar cart. Taniya sticks to this for indoor spaces as well as outdoor.
“It’s a big misconception that small space means small furniture. Larger furniture, as long as you can still move around it, often makes the space look larger. Putting in a big rug makes the space feel big too.”
Double-Duty Decor Pieces
Mixing in decor that can also work year-round rather than strictly holiday is also a great way to go.
“We went above and beyond with the holiday decor and the tree, but the rug was a very non-holiday rug. In this setting, it became a holiday rug. It had a candy cane effect paired with all of these other elements. But that rug could’ve gone with an Americana look if we had paired it with blue instead of green.”
