Interior designer and HGTV personality Taniya Nayak has taken her magical eye outdoors — to her sister’s porch, to be exact! With so much potential and a blank canvas to work with, this porch was given three seasonal looks built around key pieces and utilizing the space for what she needed. Read on and see how Taniya got the look for a summer front porch!
Keep Your Style
When starting fresh with this small front porch space, Taniya knew her sister wanted a sanctuary and a place she could enjoy family time and entertain. She infused her sister’s girliness and playful style into the front porch decor.
“We really had fun with the watermelon rug. I used that rug as inspiration for the other colors — pink, lime green white. It was a very whimsical look with bright, fun colors for summer that were borderline fluorescent.”
Build on a Theme
“Finding an inspiration piece definitely helps build a look,” Taniya said. She inadvertently built on a theme by selecting a complementing watermelon pillow, a perfect idea for summer front porch decor.
“The yellow throw pillow I chose, not realizing it was the shape of a watermelon seed. It all sort of tied in but it was more abstract, not kitschy-kitschy. I removed the cushion from the ottoman to make it seem more like a table where we could serve lemonade and slices of watermelon.”
All in the Details
The bright, summery colors changed the look of her key sectional sofa piece that Taniya used in all three looks.
“If you like to change up the look, get your key pieces in neutrals so you can swap out area rugs, throw pillows — anything can change the look, but a mainstay piece is neutral.”
